Doggy Fashion
Product Description
This whimsical volume is for those canines—and their owners—who enjoy fancy dressing and a touch of drama in their lives. It gives directions for making 12 amusing doggy costumes. Each outfit has been carefully and precisely designed to fit comfortably around canine anatomy and all are easy for the pet pooch to get in and out of. The author emphasizes that the dogs who modeled for this book’s amusing color photos are not trained stunt dogs, but ordinary pets. She advises her readers to make sure that no dog is coerced into wearing costumes it doesn’t want to wear, then adds that most family pets will enjoy the costume fest every bit as much as their owners. She provides patterns for all costumes, along with plenty of information on materials and cutting and fitting techniques. Her costumes are based on themes that include a Wild West Sheriff’s outfit, an Elvis the King costume, a Coco the Clown costume, an Astronaut Space Dog uniform, and eight more that are just as imaginative. Detailed instruction is augmented with 250 photos and illustrations.

I won’t be making the items in this book, I can make my own designs and make more well made costumes. I thought I would learn something new. Perhaps a new sewer would benefit, but if you have any idea of design or experience in sewing you’d be wasting your money.

I made the Blue’s Brother’s jacket from this book and was disappointed to discover that the instructions are very hard to follow and not clear. The pictures also do not show the steps and are hard to decipher. In all fairness, I have only completed one of the projects. The costumes are delightful and I’d like to try another. However, my over all opinion is that this book could definitely use some improvements to make it as wonderful and it was intended to be.

This book is BEAUTIFUL, full-color, and simply a blast! I actually don’t have a dog, but I have a severely disabled kitty who likes to travel and meet-and-greet. She will, no doubt, find herself in some of these outfits!! Step-by-step directions (with pictures) and tips and tricks make these sound like fun. I can’t wait to try some of them, although Ari might disagree! LOL
