How to keep mice out of a doggy door?

We have a door that goes from the garage to outside at the side of the house. I have determined that mice are coming in through the doggy door. The only thing I can think of is replacing the door and placing the new doggy door much higher so that the mice can’t jump into it. Has anyone had a similar problem and have any recommendations?

Actually, mice can jump pretty high. Why not install one of the doggie doors that are electronically operated? It will only open when your dog comes near and triggers it to open with a small electronic device worn on his collar.

Some friends had the same problem, but with feral cats coming into their house at night through a doggie door in the garage. They installed one of these electronically operated doggie doors and the problems was solved.

Totally agree with the electronic door.

Sprinkle some ajax in front of the door. The mice get it on their feet and lick it off and then they get sick and will avoid it. If you want a mouse trap, I recommend the Tin Cat by Victor which can catch up to 20 mice in a night and it is only about $15 at most farm supply stores or available online. The thing about the tin can is they work better the longer you use it since the other mice will be attracted to the smell of mouse pee.
